The effect of 2-amino-5-nitrothiazole (Enheptin) on fertility, organ weight, body weight, estrous cycle, and pituitary hormones in the rat. It has been shown that in the rat Enheptin has a transient effect on the estrous cycle of the female and the breeding capacity of the male. In addition, this compound causes a decrease in seminal vesicle and prostrate weights but not in the weight of the testes. The results indicate that Enheptin may act directly on the accessory sex organs or cause a reduction in the amount of circulating pituitary gonadotropin.
